GOV. HEINEMAN APPOINTS STRATMAN OF OMAHA TO DISTRICT COURT FOURTH JUDICIAL DISTRICT. - States News Service

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The following information was released by the office of the governor of Nebraska:

Gov. Dave Heineman today announced his appointment of Michelle 'Shelly' R. Stratman of Omaha, to serve as District Judge in the 4th Judicial District in Douglas County.

Stratman, 42, has practiced law for 16 years in Nebraska, and currently serves the Douglas County Attorney's Office as felony prosecutor and team leader of the felony attorney team. Previously, she served as Civil Attorney for the Board of Mental Health and Supervisor of the Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit.

Stratman received the Outstanding Program Award for the Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit, is a L.E.A.D. (Legal Enrichment and Decision Making) volunteer educating school children about the criminal justice system, and is an annual Law Day speaker and trainer for the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Methodist. She is a volunteer for social work programs regarding legal issues related to mental health.

Stratman is a graduate of the University of Nebraska College of Law. She has been a member of the Nebraska Bar Association since 1995.

This vacancy is due to the retirement of Judge J. Patrick Mullen.
